It was more than half a century ago in a trip to the United States, when Mr. Ike Tseng, an engineer and businessman from Taiwan, was overwhelmed by an infamous sign stood at the front door of a bike shop saying no repair was for Taiwan-made bicycles because of their awful quality. That sign since triggered Ike’s ambition to focus on the production of high-quality bicycles when he made up his mind to establish Merida in 1972. Ater years of being just a factory behind the OEM business model, in late 1980s Merida started to turn its name into a real bicycle brand that stands for quality, innovation and reliability in the international markets. Eventually it turned out to be a decades-long road for Merida to start from the scratch to become a notable international high-end bicycle brand.
