Taiwan’s Machinery Industry – Current State and Development Potential
According to IEK Consulting, in 2018 Taiwan’s machinery industry had an export value of US$27.4 billion. The top three export markets – China, the United States and Japan – accounted for a combined output value of NT$1.18 trillion, an increase of about 7.3% and a continued record high. A number of factors, primarily the stabilization of global oil prices and exchange rates, a recovery of the major industrial economies of Europe at the end of 2016, as well as an industrial upgrade in China leading to an expansion in automation and demand for new equipment, have contributed to remarkable growth in the output values of two industries: high-tech equipment and metal-processing machine tools. While 2017 saw declines from 2016 in a few categories (namely, industrial machinery, other machinery, and metal molds), other secondary machinery industries in Taiwan, including high-tech equipment, metal-processing machine tools, mechanical transmission components, and fluid machinery, all showed increasing output values.

Because of the constant quality upgrades and price advantages this creates, Taiwanese components have become the DNA of machine tools in many countries around the world.

Upstream machine tool components include ball screws and linear slides. In particular, Taiwan has become the world’s second largest supplier of ball screws. Meanwhile, Hiwin Technologies Corp. and other companies adequately support Taiwan’s domestic market demand and mainly provide components such as spindles required in machine tool assembly.

Global Machinery Industry Trends - Machine Tools Grow by Leaps and Bounds
According to an April 2018 report by Taiwan’s Department of Statistics, machine tools are the principal export of the global machinery industry. And according to research by Gardner Publications, global purchases of industrial machines have remained steady at US$80-90 billion in recent years. In 2018, global spending on machine tools was about US$91.9 billion, an increase of 4.8% compared to 2017 and the largest increase since 2011. With the steady growth of the global economy, the manufacturing industry is receiving an influx of orders, and with the rise of smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0, the global machine tool industry is flourishing once again.

Taiwan Excellence Recommends
SP-5000P, equipped with an 18,000 rpm high-speed spindle which can accelerate and decelerate in seconds, is developed for providing excellent machining performance for aluminum alloy parts. The column and bed are designed with box structure to improve structural rigidity and reduce precision error caused by thermal distortion. To reach high-accuracy and high-rigidity, SF-5000P applies a roller type large-sized linear guideway. The two-axis tilting and rotary table, with high speed double DD motor drive, can process at all complex angles. High-precision tapered positioning pins ensure stability of the APC and powerful clamping force during machining. SF-5000P adopts the latest generation Siemens controller 840D sl which is more convenient and user-friendly. Siemens controller 840D sl increases operational agility, as well as completes complex and larger angle machining. The overall effect is intensive engineering to achieve the best performance of five-axis machining.
The design of the built-in motor and the side-mounted motor of this series is about 50% smaller than that of the traditional electric cylinder slide. It provides customers with more choices in narrow space and flat and low-assembly space applications. The new anti-skid cross roller slide patent allows customers to be more stable at high speed and high frequency. Whether it is used horizontally or vertically, the retainer will not be displaced and the slide will fall off. The compact design and industrial design with a corporate image color make the product more recognizable. This product will consider environmental protection specifications in functional design, process evaluation, and auxiliary use. The aluminum extrusion pumping process can reduce material waste and processing process to achieve the lowest waste generation.
HIWIN DATORKER Robot Reducer developed to take advantage of the elastic dynamics of metal. The advantages are as follows: 1. Compact size and lightweight With smaller and lighter design, HIWIN DATORKER Robot Reducer provides the same levels of torque and reduction ratios as traditional gear device. 2. Minimum backlash HIWIN DATORKER Robot Reducer is designed with developed by taking the elastic dynamics of metal and eliminated the backlash between the components. 4. High torque capacity Different from traditional power transmission devices, each tooth is subjected to a much less force providing a high torque capacity. 6.
