BIG GOOD DESIGN CO., LTD. was established in 2011. In the early stages of development, the company focused on OEM and ODM design and manufacturing services by combining technology and creativity in stylish, elegant product appearance. Its product creations include the fully automatic ultraviolet toothbrush holder, the tower-shaped multifunctional thermos, and the stress relief eco-bottle with green fluorescent glow. In 2014, BIG GOOD DESIGN conceived the idea of establishing its own brand. Boosting Brand Recognition Attending Global Exhibitions and Sales Promotions
BIG GOOD DESIGN successfully established its own brand VAGO in 2016. By applying aerodynamic technology, the smart travel product “VAGO portable vacuum device and vacuum bag” was launched. The VAGO vacuum device has an ultralight and stylish appearance and is currently the smallest vacuum compressor on the global market. It can compress towels, clothes, and soft items to 50% of their volume and solve insufficient luggage space issues.
In order to expand its products and enhance international brand recognition, BIG GOOD DESIGN actively participated in international exhibitions including Global Sources in Hong Kong, IFA Consumer Electronics Unlimited in Germany, Embedded Technology in Japan. Furthermore, BIG GOOD DESIGN participated in the 2019 Creative Expo Taiwan for the first time. Today, BIG GOOD DESIGN products are sold in over 100 countries and available at stores operated locally in 26 key tourism countries through strategic partners. The product was deemed the coolest travel product by “USA TODAY” .
In the past few years, sales of the VAGO portable vacuum devices and vacuum bags had risen with amongst tourism business opportunities. However, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 devastated the global tourism market. BIG GOOD DESIGN exerts its resilience, agility, and flexibility of Taiwan’s small and medium-sized enterprises, to proactively cancel all physical exhibitions and switch to online marketing. In addition, the company immediately adjusted its marketing approach, and shifted its focus from the tourism market to devices with home storage functions. The new product line strikes a chord in markets such as Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea where residential units are bounded to a smaller living space. Moreover, in response to business opportunities arising from the pandemic, BIG GOOD DESIGN has begun to develop a variety of vacuum products and plans to apply compression technology to a wider variety of applications. Such products will be available at the end of the year and sold to consumers around the world.
Advancement in Five Major Aspects, Striving for the Highest MIT Honor
The year of 2020 is a meaningful year for BIG GOOD DESIGN with milestones such as winning the Taiwan Excellence Award and becoming a official supporter of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee! Speaking of the initial intention to participate the contest of the Taiwan Excellence Award, Leon Chao emphasized that he frequently saw the Taiwan Excellence Logo while expanding the company’s products in overseas markets. “VAGO is a world-class brand from Taiwan. It’s our pride to let every locally made product be printed with the MIT mark. The Taiwan Excellence Award represents the highest honor in terms of the design and manufacture of MIT products. The first award VAGO is to win must be the Taiwan Excellence Award!”
When the BIG GOOD DESIGN team further studied the assessment indicators of the Taiwan Excellence Award, the team discovered that the Evaluation Committee conducted a stringent assessment process based on five major aspects of “R&D”, “Design”, “Quality”, “Marketing”, and “Made in Taiwan” to identify outstanding products. “Since participating the contest, we are continuously driven to achieve a better and more comprehensively standard. It reminds us to constantly review our operational management and product R&D in regards to future improvement”, Leon Chao explained.

After the VAGO portable vacuum devices and vacuum bags won recognition by the 2020 Taiwan Excellence Award, BIG GOOD DESIGN has frequently received assistance and resources from the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), such as the invitation to exhibit products at the Taiwan Excellent Pavilion at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in USA. In 2020, BIG GOOD DESIGN also joined the online overseas trade development group organized by TAITRA to interact with potential foreign buyers in New Zealand, Australia, and Korea through the event’s webinars. “Taiwan Excellence Webinar not only is an effective pandemic prevention method but also cuts the costs of transportation and exhibition booths required in physical exhibitions!” Leon Chao further described how he ran into obstacles while expanding markets in Vietnam due to lack of personal connections and language barriers. With the help and arrangement of TAITRA and under the introduction of Vietnamese business veterans, Chao managed to find strategic partners and successfully developed business opportunities in the Vietnamese market.
