Electrical bicycle is the most blooming category in bicycle industry, especially in Europe. It grows double digits in recent years. Many companies are interested in this field, not only bicycle companies.
The biggest electrical bicycle market is in Europe. When it comes to “electrical bicycle”, we are talking “Pedelec”, the electrical motor assistant bicycle. Like people in Holland and Germany, they are used to ride bicycles for short distance communicating in the cities. Internal gear hubs are the most popular transmission system for those city bikes. The roads are in good condition and usually are flat in the cities so it is not necessary to have wide gear ratio and many gears for city bikes. Internal gear hub does not have as many gears as derailleur system, but its benefits are durability, easy use, and maintenance free. On the contrast, derailleurs are easy to be damaged and have “fall-off chain” problem so internal gear hub is much suitable for city bikes.
There are two major power types in pedelec. One is hub motor, another is central motor. Hub motor is equipped in the rear wheel. It is quite, better ride feel, and can be used in ordinary frame directly. Unfortunately, you can not use internal gear hub with motor hub together. That is why some electrical bicycles use central motor instead.
Our RX-RF5(E) is designed for hub motor exclusively to meet the market demand of hub motor and internal gear hub. We designed the hub shell to adapt to motor so that motor manufacturer could design a motor to be integrated RX-RF5(E) internal gear hub. This internal gear hub is still for cyclist only, not for motor.
