NEW YORK, NY — July 27, 2017— The Taiwan Excellence Product Showcase officially kicked off this morning with a special ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the four day event showcasing the best of Taiwan’s technology and innovation. The showcase returns to Time Warner Center for the second year in a row from July 27 to 30, with over 60 award-winning products from the “Silicon Valley of Asia.” With VR and gaming becoming an increasing focus of Taiwan’s tech industry, visitors can expect interactive VR experiences and competitive gaming stations. Other product categories include the Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and alternative transportation. The showcase will be open to the public daily from 10 am – 9 pm Thursday through Saturday, and 11 am – 7 pm on Sunday. Admission is free. Attended by over 50 local business and foreign trade leaders, the opening ceremony featured remarks by Ambassador Lily Hsu of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in New York, Kenneth Podziba, President and CEO of Bike New York, and Mark Anthony Thomas, Senior Vice President of Partnerships at New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). Guests were also treated to a performance by Sangpuy, winner of “Best Album” and “Best Singer of Aboriginal Language” at the 2017 Golden Melody Awards, the Grammy Awards of Taiwan.
“With companies offering best-in-class innovation and a robust start-up community, Taiwan is at the forefront of some of today’s hottest technologies,” said Frank Su, the Director of the Taiwan Trade Center in New York. “This year’s Taiwan Excellence Product Showcase offers a snapshot of the latest developments from Taiwan’s tech sector as well as a glimpse of some of the incredible things to come.”
The Taiwan Excellence Showcase tours the world each year through Asia, Europe and North America to promote Taiwan’s culture of technological innovation and leading-edge design. Founded in 1992, Taiwan Excellence is Taiwan’s highest national accolade awarded annually to selected, premier Taiwanese products for their excellence in the area of R&D, design, quality and implementation of international marketing. The winners represent the most modern and highest quality products made by Taiwan. The New York exhibition is supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, sponsored by the Bureau of Foreign Trade, of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and is organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
Taiwan Excellence Awards
There are three categories in the “Taiwan Excellence Awards”: The Taiwan Excellence Gold Award, the Taiwan Excellence Silver Award and Taiwan Excellence Award. The Gold and Silver awards are selected from among “Taiwan Excellence Award” winners and are based on the five key indicators of: R&D, design, quality, marketing, and for being made in Taiwan. The five indicators are of equal importance, and each is judged on the concept of innovation combined with value. Products that receive the “Taiwan Excellence Award” are authorized by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) to use the “Taiwan Excellence” mark.
Taiwan External Trade Development Council
The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) was founded in 1970 to promote Taiwan’s foreign trade and competitiveness in world markets. Over the past 40 years, TAITRA has played a key role in the development of the Taiwanese economy. Bureau of Foreign Trade
